An independent division of Young’s Tae Kwon Do & A Hutchinson System of Integrated Mind Body Therapies School

In June of 2008 my training program began offering a full Tai Chi Chuan regiment in conjunction with Young’s Tae Kwon Do.

In addition to the Yang Style Tai Chi Chuan Long Form which is the core of Tai Chi Chuan, we also offer, as an optional part of the curriculum and included in the tuition, additional courses in Qi Gong, Conditioning for the Internal Martial Arts, and Cooperative Partner Training.

These offerings cover most of the aspects of Tai Chi Chuan training for both Martial (Self-Defense) and Civil (Fitness and Healing) purposes and allow the students to train in the aspects that they see fit.

Yang Style Long Form Tai Chi Chuan

The Solo form forms the core of Tai Chi Chuan. It is through continual honing of the precise relaxed movements that allows a Tai Chi Player to develop the body alignment, flexibility, and sense of balance that Tai Chi Chuan is known for.

Our system teaches the Long Form, which is usually estimated at 108 individual movements and is taught in three sets. Completion of the first set is equivalent to training in most short form styles.

Our system of training is based on a form that left China shortly after the Cultural Revolution, before many of the changes were incorporated to focus the art on health maintenance and reduce the self defense aspects of the art.
Training in this form one hour on the weekend and maintaining a personal daily training practice is all the commitment that is needed to start Tai Chi Chuan training.
Qi Gong: The Chinese System of Meditation

Qi Gong is the Chinese meditation system which develops internal energy (Qi). Tai Chi Chuan can be classified and used as a Qi Gong studying several shorter forms can speed the development of both energy and awareness of the body.

By teaching these exercises outside of the main form the student is able to focus on these shorter units to round out their daily practice.

Qi Gong can be considered China’s equivalent to India’s Yoga practices at a basic level. Principles of breathing and movement are different enough between the two arts that even an experienced Yoga Practitioner will find something new in training in this system.

Internal Martial Arts Conditioning
While some of the exercises appear in both Internal and External Martial Arts training programs, conditioning in the Internal Martial Arts focuses on developing “Soft Power” that is an intelligent and well placed use of energy rather than raw strength. These well rounded system of fighting arts compliment knowledge with exercises that focus on developing strength of body within the context of these principles maintaining flexibility and range of motion while pushing the body to grow in strength.

Partner Training and Push Hands
Tai Chi Chuan and the Internal Martial Arts offer a unique cooperative system of training with another person, from formal routines and cooperative exercises to developing sensitivity, and skills in following and leading your partner the system is designed to help develop each person’s skills.
